Weigh-in: Week 24, +0.8 pounds

Sorry, busy week, plus I had to get the right amount of gaming in, and honestly I'm still not a big fan of talking about myself (which makes the idea of a blog somewhat ironic until you realize I really don't post that much about myself). So anyway, up only a little bit, which actually is a major accomplishment considering that on one of the days in question I went to an all-you-can-eat churrascaria, although honestly it was more accurately all-they-care-to-bring-us, because we were served much more slowly in the past. (Fine with me, I wasn't overly full when we left.) Now, I did walk quite a bit, but then I also sat a lot, and I ate food that wasn't always that good for me.

So a little weight gain is understandable, although less than desirable when you realize that the six-month weigh-in is the 26th (which, of course, is "tomorrow" as I am writing this). Then again, I deliberately chose a long-term, maintainable plan rather than a short-term, high-weight-loss plan. I have to say I like the results so far, even if I'm not going to lose 7.8 pounds by tomorrow.

  1. If you figure out how to loose 7.8lbs by tomorrow, please let me know the trick!

You could go on a all night bike ride. According to my heart rate monitor I burned 2000 calories in 2 hours of biking and 1.5 hours of tennis...so do the math. How many hours of biking would it take to loose 7.8 lbs??

  2. There is no safe way to lose that much weight in a day. Even if you trick it out of your body, you're going to be in bad shape for a while, and it's certainly not sustainable. Even 7 pounds in a week isn't sustainable ... for that you really have to be under the guidance of an expert and you have to be pushing yourself pretty hard. That's 24,500 calories you're burning. (I left out the eight-tenths of a pound.)

Wait ... if the 2000 calories is for the 3.5 hours combined, then I can't answer your question. Two One equation and two unknowns. You need to provide another equation. (For example, if you knew that you burned three times the calories playing tennis as you did riding your bike, that would work for me.)

My bike monitor estimated 360 calories per hour ... at that rate, you'd need to ride for nearly three days straight to lose 7 pounds ...

  5. I always figured that if I wanted to lose at least 30lbs quickly, I would cut off a leg. That should do it....

  6. How much do you think a prosthetic leg weighs?
