So yeah, I didn't get the late-night delivery I wanted. Supposedly it's out for delivery now. whatever.
I seem to recall this happened before with Amazon. Well, that's it! No more pre-orders from them! Ever!
I thought I'd look it up, just to ensure I wasn't forgetting anything ... and it turns out that it was EBgames.com, not Amazon. I think it was Mario Kart: Double Dash for the GameCube.
oops.
But that doesn't really matter. If I really want a game on launch day, I'm better off driving around for an hour and finding it live than paying extra to get it delivered and then finding out the day of arrival that it's not coming.
It's a shame that there's really no pressure in B2C relationships that you'd see in B2B ... granted, it's not about the money (I'm sure that'll be refunded) as much as the promise. I just don't feel like there's any urgency on UPS' part to deliver the game.
Well, it's not like I pre-order that many games anyway. I sure wouldn't do it if I had to put down a deposit ...
Update, 2:10 P.M.: It's here, finally. Of course I'm in the middle of a long Culdcept duel and won't be able to play for a while ... and today is supposed to be a DDR day ... grrrr ...
Video games, rants, Lions, Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons, more video games, sports, rambling, sarcastic humor, more rambling ... and rants.

Guitar Hero's Eve
The two-player version is sitting in the UPS Indianapolis hub right now. (The irony is that even though the hub is about 5 miles from my house, I can't drive over there and pick up my package. They'll have to drive over here, and if I'm unlucky, I'll have to sign for this one too, meaning that they'll drive over here, not find me even if I take a late lunch, drive back, and then I still won't be able to pick it up until Wednesday. Boo UPS.)
Also, my GameStop order hasn't shipped yet. I strongly suspect that it won't ship tomorrow either. Good. That'll make it easier to cancel.
Anyway, it may all be academic, pardon the pun. I'm starting work on a master's in software engineering, so I won't have that much free time at first anyway. Actually, I already started: the quarter begins today, so I already have my first assignment. (I kind of messed up my search for the books I need, but they're coming overnight from Amazon, so they'll be here tomorrow via DHL, which means I know I'll get them. $8 extra for overnight. In these situations, being a Prime member is worth it. However, one thing hasn't changed in 16 years. Textbook prices still suck.)

360: Separation, part 8
Well, it's in town. Of course, I don't have it, because the UPS guy arrived at a different time. So I entered the InfoNotice number and will pick it up tomorrow.
Things I think are funny:
Sounds like cable service. The best part is that I've already told them to leave everything they can, but half the stuff I order can't be left no matter what. Funny how FedEx doesn't seem to have a problem with that.
What they need is to hire a skeleton crew to work nights, so that you can pick up your package in the evening, after the trucks are back. Then we could get our stuff the day we'd asked for it to be delivered.
I'm just saying.
Things I think are funny:
- The approximate time of the next attempt is 10:30-2:00, which is funny because I took a late lunch in anticipation of this, and he didn't show up until 2:55 or so.
- You can't change the delivery option for a package until an attempt has been made, and you can't change it via the website at all without an InfoNotice number. You can't make a change for the following day's delivery after 7, and you can't pick up a package after 7. I wish I could work like this. "Sorry, I have something of yours, but you can't come get it, you can't tell me where else to leave it, and you have to wait until after I fail to deliver it to get it yourself."
